Staying in Touch … It's Just A Click Away
Q: What is the best way to stay in touch with my child while he or she is at camp?
A: The absolute best way to keep in contact with your child is to mail a handwritten letter. There is nothing like the feeling of opening a sealed envelope to reveal a personal, handwritten note from home!
Q: What's the fastest way to stay in touch with my child while he or she is at camp?
A: We are happy to announce a new partnership with Bunk1.com, an Internet-based camp communication company that will serve as the delivery system for all email communications to and from our campers. Messages to campers will be sent in the form of Bunk Notes and responses will come to you via email as Bunk Replies. Bunk1 will also store and manage the camp photos that are posted online all summer long.
Q: Why did camp switch to a new provider?
A: The main reason we are switching to a new system is security. With Bunk1, we can better track who has access to the camp photos and who can send messages to campers. Bunk1 requires the same login you used during the spring update process and requires that you authorize any relatives or friends before they can register for the site to communicate with your child. This also ensures that no inappropriate or unauthorized users have access to pictures of your child as required by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, a federal law. We also switched systems to better focus our staff resources on providing an enriching experience for our campers instead of needing to sort the increasing volume of emails that come to camp.
Q: How do I send emails to my child at camp and view any pictures that are posted?
A: First, you will need to login to the Bunk1 website at https://bunk1db.bunk1.com/campfire/Public/LoginForm.aspx?cid=9908 with your personal username and password and then click on the Bunk1 tab to activate your summer service account for emails, bunk replies and photos. (If you have lost your username or password, you may go to the registration link on www.Bunk1.com and the information will be emailed to you. Or call the camp office at 410-466-9010 before June 11 or camp directly after June 11). Further information and step-by-step registration instructions are available.
Q: Is there a fee to use Bunk1?
A: When you activate your Bunk1 account, you will be required to select a communication package for your child. You may choose to select the FREE package that provides your account with free introductory credits from Bunk1. Campers attending for up to 2 weeks will receive two bunk credits, campers attending for 4 weeks will receive four bunk credits, and campers attending for 8 weeks will receive eight credits. Each sent and received email is charged one credit. Additional credits and packages are available for purchase through the camp website www.airylouise.org or www.bunk1.com. There are several packages available including a flat fee of $59.95 per camper to cover an unlimited amount of Bunk Notes and Bunk Replies. There is also a $20 package that enables unlimited Bunk Replies. The Bunk1 fees cover technology costs, paper, ink and labor, and free camp staff to do what is more important – be with your children.
Q: How can my child send letters home to me?
A: Campers are encouraged to write letters to be mailed home through the U.S. Postal Service. However, Bunk1 also provides a new Bunk Replies system that enables campers to reply to emails. Campers are encouraged to write replies to parents and family members on Bunk Reply Stationery, which is bar coded for delivery to you. Once your child writes a handwritten note on Bunk Reply Stationery, it is collected and faxed to Bunk1, and the note is scanned and converted to be sent via email to you. You may either provide your child with a sufficient supply of Bunk Reply Stationery upon arrival at camp or attach a stationery sheet with each email note you email to your child. More detail about Bunk Replies is available.
Q: Will my child still be able to receive packages and letters from home?
A: As always, we suggest sending traditional letters and packages to camp through the U.S. Postal Service. There's nothing more exciting for campers than opening personalized letters and packages sent with care from parents and relatives. This year, however, we ask that you refrain from sending food items to camp as they tend to attract critters that are not welcome in our bunks and they encourage campers to fill up on these items instead of the nutritious meals provided in our dining hall. Popular items to send are Mad Libs, magazines, books, small games and toys. Or, you may contact one of our preferred camp package vendors like Sealed with a Kiss or the Wrinkled Egg for an age-appropriate camp package.
Q: How can I view pictures of my child at camp?
A: After registering through Bunk1, you can simply login to the Photo Gallery and view photographs taken at camp. All photos are arranged in folders by camp, date and activity to make it easier to find your child's photos. Bunk1 also provides the opportunity to purchase prints or specialty items like t-shirts. There is no fee to view camp photos.
Q: Will I be able to visit my child at camp?
A: At Camps Airy & Louise, we don't have visiting days for parents. We like to provide our campers with the full experience of being away at overnight camp. The camp season is short and in order for your child to get the most from camp, there are no visiting days.
