“I Love Rocky Road”

With all due respect to Weird Al Yankovic, I think Rocky Road ice cream is ok. I’m more of a cookies and cream-type. I love going to “Candyland” here in Thurmont for their hand-spun, thick, Hershey’s ice cream milk shakes.

Today, we all put down our spoons and cones, as it’s National Ice Cream Sandwich Day. Our dining services team surprised us with dessert as our first course – ice cream sandwiches, and toppings that included chocolate sprinkles, chocolate chips, and whipped cream. The popular children’s rhyme came to life – “I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!” Then to top off dessert, we dug into dinner.

At its core, camp is about fun. Surely, camper care and wellness takes top priority. High level, engaging programs led by skilled staff allow us to help campers “Find Their Inner Awesome.” Woven throughout must be fun – wacky, spontaneous, humorous, unexpected. Like dessert before dinner. Like a surprise announcement of Olympic generals. Like a three-legged kickball game. Like administrator belly flops at the pool.

Oh … one more thing. Parents and families should not worry about the extra sweets for dinner. Friday is National Watermelon Day, so we’ll have plenty of fruit.
