Bat Mitzvah

Mazel Tov! Tonight we celebrated Louise’s Bat Mitzvah! This was a fun-filled night with a little bit of education thrown in. During dinner to kick-off this event, there was a slide show of staff members’ Bar and Bat Mitzvah pictures. The campers had a great time guessing who they were. Some of the pictures were pretty funny!

Throughout the evening, campers participated in many stations, including Bat Mitzvah games like Coke and Pepsi.  A popular station was Bat Mitzvah Bingo. In the game, campers had to perform different tasks to be able to mark off their board. Some of the activities were:

  • Tell someone you don’t know about your favorite part of Shabbat
  • Count to five in Hebrew
  • Compliment someone
  • Learn something new about an international counselor’s country
  • Share your best camp memory with three friends

There was also a match game where the campers had to match famous Jewish women to facts about them. Some of my favorites at this station were Judy Blume and Idina Menzel!

There was another activity where the campers were given a short story to read about Jewish women from our history. The campers then made up a skit. I watched one bunk (#28) perform the Torah story about the 5 daughters who did not inherit their father’s land when he died. The sisters stood up for themselves and fought for what they believed in and the land was ultimately given to them.

I watched Bunk #12 (see picture) acting out the story of Miriam who saved her brother Moses when he was placed in a basket in the Nile.

At the end of the Bat Mitzvah, our campers wrote thank you notes to show their gratitude to others. The night then ended with a big Hora! It was definitely a successful evening for all!

Happy Bat Mitzvah, Louise!
