CITs XIX!

For anyone who went to Louise, these lyrics will sound very familiar…

No longer a camper, but not yet on staff

My CIT days were just great!

CIT Summer is quite the pinnacle of the camp experience! Seven weeks in Cascade, MD with 32 of your closest friends – some of whom didn’t even know each other until this summer! The community that is built among the CITs is pretty amazing. And one of the readings in our Saturday morning Shabbat service pretty much sums it up:

We live together, eat and play together, create and fashion things of beauty together,

sing and dance together. On Shabbat, we pray together.

In addition, the CITs do a host of other things together too….They participate in training sessions, gain experience as they are mentored by our staff in little bunks and departments, plan a CIT Shabbat service, write and perform a song for Welcome Show, work with Girls Inc. as part of their community service project, choose their CIT letters, design their swag, write their campfire, create a haunted house experience, eat milkshakes in Cabaña, hike the hills of West Virginia, raise and lower the flags every day, lead a Super Saturday afternoon, climb Via Ferrata, folkdance to Mishaela, enjoy a day at Hershey Park, sing in Shabbat choir, bring an assortment of wacky costumes to camp, volunteer in the York Community (by packing school supplies for Good for Goode Project, playing board games with the residents of Country Meadows Retirement Home, and weeding the playground at Leg Up Farm), relax in hammocks (but only one in each, not apartment style and only 3 feet off the ground), lead their teams to victory as lieutenants in Color Games, raise the big flag in the Dining Hall on July 4th, fill a shadow box to commemorate their summer, stay up late, sleep in on Thursdays and Saturdays, laugh, cry and soak in every moment of their summer.

The CIT Shabbat service theme was Road Trip of Our Lives, and it most certainly has been. But what they don’t realize is…this is just the beginning!  Speaking from experience…go, 1987 CITs!
