IMG_4789“The show must go on.” A summer experience at Camp Airy embodies this motto, never taking a back seat to Mother Nature and what she may throw our way. Today, she was throwing rain. Lots of it. Our leadership of seasoned camp veterans concocted a plan that we perfect for a rainy day – a combination of silliness, running around, movie time, and “chillin.”

Following Shabbat services that featured a reflection from Adam Clay and an inspirational message from Rabbi Hal, we shared and enjoyed an oneg. At lunch, we rolled out the “Wheel of Birthdays” and celebrated Spencer and Ian. After lunch, the activity and movie rotation began, hi-lighted by the Junior Camp “Airy Auction!”

I was invited to serve as “auctioneer” for the event. All of the bunks spent the first week of camp earning “Airy Dollars” for successes like inspection scores, league games, and unit competitions. The money was flying – bunks won pool parties, ice cream under the stars, and a maid for the day, and much much more. Bunk 20 bid and won “A Party with Marty.” A good time was had by all.

Kudos to our entire camper and staff community – their flexibility and positive outlook in the not-so-lovely weather conditions resulted in a great day. But we certainly won’t mind some sunshine tomorrow.
