Now Hiring – Graphic Designer and Social Media Manager

Position Summary:  

The Graphic Designer and social media manager will serve as a key member of the marketing department, reporting to the Executive Director and senior management to build a strong community of Campers, Alumni and prospects across a range of social and digital channels.  This role includes graphic design and video editing, as well as production and development of social media content.  It is an excellent introduction to the business side of camping, playing a critical role supporting the entire Camps Airy & Louise organization.  

The position requires an individual to take a leadership role in graphic design and social media marketing while learning other areas of the organization including outbound marketing, event activation, and both retention and acquisition marketing.

This position requires an organized, self-motivated, personable and responsible individual, with a passion for Camp and a strong desire to build a career in the industry.  Entry-level candidates are welcome (including current college students), however should be able to demonstrate a strong work ethic and graphic design experience. All candidates must provide a portfolio or samples of work in order to be considered for the position. 


This job may be a full-time or part-time role, requiring between 20 and 40 hours per week. It may include some nights, weekends and travel as part of the role. There may also be a commitment to living at either Camp Airy, located in Thurmont, MD or Camp Louise, Located in Cascade, MD for 8 weeks during the summer from mid-June through mid-August 2021.


Primary Responsibilities:


Design graphics and collateral to support social media and other traditional marketing efforts as well as new logos and infographics for our fundraising efforts. 

Design multiple graphics for T-Shirts and other apparel/branded goods throughout the year. 

Create and schedule Email blasts in coordination with our Director of Operations.

Produce visual content (video, photo, banners, etc.) for print, web and video feeds; shoot, produce, edit summer video content while camp is in session. 

Set and meet critical deadlines within design and execution process.



Manage development of website updates and maintenance (including graphic design, blog content, SEO/SEM, calls to action, etc.) 

Ensure the website is maintained in accordance with brand guidelines. 

Manage our paid advertising efforts via search engines (Adwords) and social networks. 

Support the marketing efforts of our team including email, lead nurturing/lifecycle, graphic design, analytics, etc.



Build and manage the company’s social media profiles and presence, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and other platforms to foster community, attract new campers and engage current families, campers and alumni. 

Generate, publish, and share daily content (original text, images, video, graphics) that builds relationships with community members and results in meaningful engagements.

Respond appropriately to inquiries that come in via comments and personal messages to our channels.

Ideate new campaigns, hooks, messaging, and funnels to generate new camper leads

Stay up to date on the latest trends and other opportunities to elevate our social presence. 

Monitor and report analytics of all social channels. 


Skills and Educational Requirements:

2-year or 4-year degree track or graduate preferred with coursework in graphic design, marketing, advertising or communications. Please provide samples of your work along with your resume.

Demonstrate an active and well-rounded presence on social media, with a command of each network and their best practices, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc.

Excellent communicator and creative thinker, with an ability to be self-directed, initiate new ideas and be able to implement. 

Excellent writing skills to be able to communicate our ideas to a broad audience.

Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced work environment. 

Strong project management skills. Ideal candidates must be able to manage multiple projects at once and deliver under tight deadlines.

Experience with Adobe Creative Suite such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, and After Effects. 

Familiarity with using DSLR cameras and other photo and video recording equipment.

Knowledge of basic HTML/CSS is a plus, WordPress experience preferred.


Work Location:

From September through May, you’ll work out of our Baltimore, MD office (or remotely)

June through August may be asked to live and work at one of our camps (approximately 1 hour from Baltimore) – Camp Airy in Thurmont, MD or Camp Louise in Cascade, MD



$35,000—$45,000 annually for full-time position
