Legally Blonde by the Experience

Last night was electric. From the moment the opening chord blared from the incredible sound system at Jill’s Place, the audience was cheering, and they didn’t seem to stop until the hour of Legally Blonde had come to a glorious end. The audience at Camp Louise is always supportive – making signs, clapping, and laughing – but last night was at a whole other level. This had to do with the incredible cast and crew. As the young people like to say right now, the LB group “slayed”. It isn’t easy to learn 120 script pages of notes, lines, and dance moves in so few days, but the kids did it! Some have never performed or been on stage crew, while others are seasoned, having done many community and school productions . . . but during and after last night’s show, every one of them was beaming, and many shed literal tears of joy. We work with young people on shows year round, and during this process, we talked often about our hopes and goals for the three weeks: create community, help kids grow in their roles, and have a good time. As Directors, we always hope things will go decently well and the kids will feel positively about the experience when it’s over. Very rarely do we come away thinking, “That was pretty darn perfect.” And this was. What a show! What a night! What a camp!
