Shabbat Shalom, Camp Louise!

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.

These famous words from the childhood story The Little Engine that Could certainly do ring true at Camp Louise.

What better place to test this out than in a safe, loving community like camp?  When we face a challenge at camp, it is important to maintain a positive attitude and a mindset of determination so that we can persevere – all with the encouragement of our friends, bunkmates, counselors, and staff!  And that’s the best part!

Our middah nominees demonstrated perseverance this week because camp is the perfect place to try new things, like climbing to a new level on the Adventure Park, going white water rafting, or even auditioning for talent show!

Our counselors, Unit Leaders, Division Heads, and Wellness Team work with campers to persevere when they have moments of missing home – helping them stay engaged, participate in activities, make connections, and enjoy camp.

Our Department Heads, specialists, and counselors work with campers in activity areas as they develop new skills.  Oftentimes, it is hard at first to learn a new stroke at the pool or hit the bullseye in archery (or even the target at all) or memorize the choreography of a new folkdance.  Progress takes practice even when it is frustrating and things feel impossible.

Friendships can take perseverance too!  Making friends doesn’t always happen on the first day of camp.  Sometimes, it can take a little while to make connections.  But before you know it, campers are introducing themselves, joining games, and sitting next to each other at meals.

Perseverance is not about never struggling; it is about continuing even during hard times.  This is a skill we could all use a little more of!

Wishing you a week filled with perseverance!

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.

We know you can, we know you can, we know you can!

Shabbat Shalom,

Alicia
