I know I’m biased when I say that Camp Airy is the best in all the land, but let me say this. It is a FACT that nothing beats the vibe at Camp Airy when the Olympics is decided by the tug o’ war. In a fantastic July 2023 Olympics, Gordo and the White Team (chefs) bested Jared and the Green Team (kings).

Olympic hi-lights for me included:

Dylan, one our youngest campers, lighting the Olympic Cauldron with help from Bob

The Airy CAs and STs competing in a synchronized dance event on stage in front of the whole camp.

All Star Games After Dark – we stayed up a little later than usual for some night time Olympic contests – there were lights and glowing things around our fields and adjacent to the illuminated Gym, SkatePark and Blue Courts. Kudos to Miles and Gerry for a great event.

The Olympic Scorekeepers (Unit Leaders Manny and Jared) wearing matching cash jackets while they tallied tens of thousands of points.

I had the chance to participate in a staff Olympic Spades match. Scott and I were bested by Clay and Ethan. We’ll get ‘em in the rematch.

We kicked off Olympics on Tuesday night, a day after taking in the Airy production of “Madagascar Jr.” What a funny show .. people weren’t LION.

So long to our friends who have spent two or four weeks with us. We hope to see you back in 2024 as we celebrate Airy’s centennial.
