Shabbat Shalom, Camp Louise!

For the first week of our second session, we talked a lot about perseverance and boy did we see a lot of perseverance this week!

The following campers were nominated to light candles with me this week for demonstrating our Middah of the Week:

  • A Unit A camper had been missing home at the beginning of the week but she persevered and is now having a great time!
  • A Unit B camper was afraid to do the zip line at the Adventure Park.  After communicating her feelings, she listened to the instructions from the counselors and took the leap!  When she got back to the landing, she said it was so fun and ended up doing it two more times!
  • Four of our campers were nominated for persevering at the pool.
  • A Unit C camper worked really hard during the school year to make green water in swim this year and was devastated when she tested into blue water. Despite her disappointment, she was determined to level up and after working with our Swim Department Head, she was able to retest into green water!
  • A Unit D camper also has been practicing her swimming at the pool all of first session and has persevered and achieved the green band.
  • A Unit E camper has been in blue for 4 years.  She persevered and practiced before camp and she got into green!
  • A Unit F camper tested into blue and kept trying and retested – achieving her goal of green!
  • A Unit E camper kept on trying the warp wall at parkour.  After 3 tries, not only did she accomplish it but she was the only one in the bunk!
  • We are so fortunate to have FOUR campers from Israel this session.  These campers persevered by entering both a new country and a new community.  They ventured forth without looking back.  Persevering through American activities, they have overcome language and cultural barriers to become full-fledged members of our community.  They are becoming more homegrown by the day!
  • The Unit E camper is fitting in so well! She is so funny. On their unit night talent show, she even got up and told a joke! The other night on the bus to Camp Airy, she was the star of the show with her singing!
  • During swim screening, the Unit F camper took a break to fix her goggles, then continued on with the test and made it into green!
  • The two STs have jumped right into the community – dressing up in costume at the dance.

We are so proud of our candle lighters who have shown great perseverance this week!

Wishing everyone a Shabbat Shalom!

Alicia
